We encourage students and families to start with savings, grants, scholarships, and federal student loans to pay for college. Evaluate all anticipated monthly loan payments, and how much the student expects to earn in the future, before considering a private student loan.

If you decide a private student loan is the right move for you, Sallie Mae loans have options for every need:

  • Competitive variable and fixed interest rates
  • No origination fee or prepayment penalty1
  • Multiple repayment options

Global Credit Union does not service student loans. We've partnered with Sallie Mae to provide student loan options to our members.

Once you start the application process with Sallie Mae, they will be your primary point of contact. Global Credit Union will not have access to view your student loan information.

Many students haven’t had enough time to build up credit of their own. Applying with a cosigner may help you get approved for your undergraduate or graduate private student loan.

These loans are made by Sallie Mae Bank. Global Federal Credit Union is not the creditor for these loans and is compensated by Sallie Mae for the referral of loan customers. Applications are subject to a requested minimum loan amount of $1,000. Current credit and other eligibility criteria apply. Click here for additional eligibility information about each product.

1Although we do not charge a penalty or fee if you prepay your loan, any prepayment will be applied as outlined in your promissory note—first to Unpaid Fees and costs, then to Unpaid Interest, and then to Current Principal.

2For applications submitted directly to Sallie Mae, loan amount cannot exceed the cost of attendance less financial aid received, as certified by the school. Applications submitted to Sallie Mae through a partner website will be subject to a lower maximum loan request amount. Miscellaneous personal expenses (such as a laptop) may be included in the cost of attendance for students enrolled at least half-time.
