About us

Putting members first since 1948

Strength in members

Global is one of the largest credit unions in the U.S., serving more than 750,000 members across the country and around the world. We are a member-owned cooperative, returning profits to our members by offering competitive rates and lower fees.

Members have access to online financial services, more than 5,500 shared branches in all 50 states, and over 55,000 surcharge-free ATMs worldwide.

Strength in community

Our story begins in 1948 with a handful of civilian employees of the Alaska Air Depot. They pooled their savings and volunteered their time to operate the credit union, lending money when banks wouldn’t so they could set down roots in Alaska.

As our community grew, so did the credit union. Today we serve individuals, families, and businesses across Alaska, Washington, Idaho, California, Arizona, and even military bases in Italy.

We’re a community of everyday people empowering each other to build a better financial future for ourselves and the ones we love. We use profits to provide better benefits to our members, unlike traditional banks who are focused on earning a profit for shareholders. That means you and more than 750,000 other members get access to reduced loan rates, lower fees, and better dividends then you might find elsewhere.

Always innovating

We have a history of integrating the latest technology into our services to meet the evolving needs of our members.

In the 1970s, we launched our member service call center, an innovation to credit unions nationwide. In the 1990s, we offered online account access which brought financial services to the homes of members across the country.

Now, our Global app offers secure, reliable banking right from your smartphone. Through digital services we can meet the financial needs of all members with expert advice and low-rate products—wherever you go.

Fair and equitable stewardship

Global Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative, an industry leader in financial products and services, with its guiding mission to enrich lives through world-class financial services. Global operates openly, ethically, and with accountability, and has adopted bylaws that inform how it can best support and serve the membership.

Meet our credit union officials

Officials serve on a voluntary basis and receive no compensation for the time they spend working on behalf of the membership of the credit union. Global’s board members are elected annually by the credit union's members, each of whom has a single vote, regardless of how many shares they have on deposit. Committee members are appointed on an annual basis.
