Why Choose a Credit Union Savings Account?

Is it better to get a savings account with a credit union? For many people, yes. Credit unions are member-owned and not-for-profit, so earnings come back to you through lower fees and higher dividends—not to shareholders. You get the same federal deposit insurance as a bank (up to $250,000 through the NCUA), typically with fewer fees attached.

Credit Union Savings Account FAQs

There’s no maintenance fee for a Global Credit Union savings account.

We calculate dividends daily and credit them to your account every quarter. You earn dividends on your savings from the date of deposit to the date of withdrawal. You must have a minimum balance of $50 to earn dividends.

No, there’s no limit to the number of withdrawals you can make. To access your account, you can:

  • Use any of the 55,000+ surcharge free ATMs in our network.
  • Transfer money through Online & Mobile Banking.
  • Visit one of our Global Credit Union branches or one of the many locations in the CO-OP Shared Branch Network®.

Yes, all Global Credit Union savings accounts are federally insured up to $250,000 by the NCUA, an agency of the U.S. government. This includes accounts for individuals, businesses, organizations, associations, and public units.

Yes, if you are enrolled in online banking, you can receive eStatements instead of paper statements in the mail. You can also sign up to receive an email reminder when your new eStatement is ready.

To sign up for eStatements:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Click the Account Services tab.
  3. Click Request eStatements.
  4. Review and accept the Electronic Statements and Notices Disclosure and Agreement.

Both accounts are federally insured, carry no monthly fee, and require no minimum balance to open.

A savings account earns a stable, predictable dividend rate — the right fit if you want consistent returns and easy access to your money. A Money Market account earns a rate that adjusts based on market conditions, so your dividends can increase when rates rise. Both require a minimum daily balance to earn dividends: $50 for a Global Credit Union Savings account, $5,000 for a Global Credit Union Money Market account.

If your idle cash regularly stays above $5,000 and you want to earn more, the Money Market is the stronger choice. If you prefer simplicity and flexibility, a Savings account delivers reliable returns without the higher balance requirement.

A standard savings account is a strong fit for short-term goals like a vacation fund. There’s no monthly fee, no minimum to open, and your money stays accessible. Set up automatic deposits from your paycheck to build toward your goal on a schedule.

If your balance is likely to stay above $5,000, a Global Credit Union Money Market account can earn a higher, market-adjusted rate while keeping your funds accessible.

Either way, your deposits are federally insured up to $250,000 by the NCUA.
