Sergeant Katie Irvin served in the Marine Corps from 2003 to 2006. She was deployed in 2004 to the MEK base in Fallujah, Iraq, and spent a year running convoys through combat heavy areas between Fallujah and Baghdad. The base sustained heavy rocket fire for weeks on end, culminating in the first Battle of Fallujah in April of 2004, where she defended security checkpoints along the roads leading out of the city during the attack.
After her honorable discharge from service in 2006, Katie moved to Spokane where she completed her BFA in Visual Communication Design at Eastern Washington University, and has since worked as a graphic designer for a local digital marketing agency, a job that she loves dearly, and that doesn't require wearing kevlar. She's getting married next year; she performs and teaches Tribal Fusion Bellydance; she loves birds and Sour Patch Kids; and some days, she is still in the process of coming home.
